Course Aim: To support professionals in recognising early signs of poor mental health and wellbeing in children and young people, and to build confidence in starting supportive conversations.

Who is it for? This course is for everyone in Portsmouth who: works with children directly or indirectly; works with adults who are parents; or works within a community setting.

Learning Outcomes:

This course will equip delegates to:

  • Recognise signs of poor mental health and wellbeing in children and young people
  • Understand the importance of relationships in supporting those who are struggling
  • Use the OFNR (Observation, Feeling, Need, Request) framework to have supportive conversations about mental health and wellbeing

Time: This is a three-hour taught course which we offer on a regular basis during term time.

Certificate: You will receive a certificate on completion of evaluation online.

Prerequisite: While each session can stand alone, we recommend attending Session 1 to gain foundational knowledge.

NB: This session is the second part of a 3-part training programme covering the foundations for supporting children and families' mental health. The final session will focus on further support and signposting to specialist services.
